Easy and healthy fruit popsicles you can make with your kids. Banana or pineapple sticks dipped in melted gooey chocolate and of course….lots of sprinkles.
The world is a bit crazy right now. Our normal has been thrown out the window and overnight we all basically became homeschoolers. Our kids’ school sent some activity ideas. And, although there are endless resources online, I feel clueless on what to do with three kids at home all day.
Anyone with me?
Baking with Kids
One of the suggestions was to bake or cook with your kids. While sometimes I do love to bake with my kids, sometimes it feels a bit like this meme below. Powered sugar is everywhere, eggs are being dropped on the floor and why are they always licking everything?
I totally get it. It can be hard to bake with kids.
So, I’m coming up with “baking” projects that you can ACTUALLY do with your kids and keep your sanity.

Fruit Popiscles
For this first baking project, there’s not even any baking involved. I decided to make some fruit popsicles (a healthy-ish version) with bananas and pineapples. One of my kids doesn’t like bananas so we decided to throw pineapples into the mix. Whoa…chocolate + juicy pineapple = delicious.
We chopped up some fruit, inserted some popsicles sticks and froze them. Waiting for them to freeze was the hardest part. After they were frozen, we dipped them in melted chocolate and covered them with sprinkles. It can’t get any simpler.
Supplies to Make the Fruit Popsicles
Here’s what you will need:
- 2 bananas
- 3-4 pineapple slices
- 1 cup of melted chocolate
- Coconut oil or shortening
- Popsicle sticks
- Knife
- Sprinkles
How to Make Them
- Wash your hands (you know the drill)
- Cut the bananas in half and the pineapples into long spears.
- Insert the popiscle sticks into the fruit.
- Freeze for 1-2 hours (I know this is the hardest part).
- Melt the chocolate (You can just microwave the chocolate 30 seconds at a time and stir until it is melted).
- Add the coconut oil to the melted chocolate.
- Dip the fruit into the chocolate.
- Cover in sprinkles.
- Enjoy or freeze for later!
Tips for Baking with Kids
Here are a few tips to make sure you get the most out of cooking with your kids. I understand that this takes a bit of patience and letting them do things can be hard. After making these fruit popsicles, their afternoon snack is done so you can check that off the list.
- Let go of perfect and embrace messy!
- Use a stool or chair for little kids so they can help out.
- Pick a simple recipe.
- Don’t do everything for them. They will mess up. That’s the point.
Let’s try to get through this crazy time with some baking to help us stay calm and have a bit of fun while we are home. Hopefully this recipe inspires you to get the kids in the kitchen with you. I am going to try to post a few more baking projects that are easy to do with kids. In the meantime, check out these other recipes that would be easy for your little ones (and big ones) to help out.
